To examine the causes of conflict and poverty in Africa by initiating thematic studies in Africa. The outcome of such studies will be documented in all forms that will facilitate the generation and circulation of knowledge; the maintenance of visible presence of civil society in Africa; and progress towards the entrenchment of constitutional processes and the rule of law.

MUSIC FOR DEVELOPMENT IN TAMALE (BEACON OF PEACE)

The Tamale taxi rank was the site of a crowd-pulling musical concert on 24th February 2007 where over 50 musicians from across the country gathered to climax FOSDA's activities on practical peace building through music. The project emerged from the desire to acknowedge and also herald the initiatives of youth musicians from the Tamale area who have contributed to peace building through their music over the years.

Among the popular musicians who performed were: Sheriff Ghali (the 2005 best Reggae artiste in Ghana), Sherifatu Gunu, Abu Mohammed, Mayopia, Lord Wumpini, Mama Rams, George Cliff, Nana Ayisha, Super Slam, Subash, Kawa Stone, Faako, Tarim Bia, Bikura Ba, K.K.C., Monkey No Fine among others.

The dominant theme of the songs that were performed centered on peace, unity, forgivenness, love and oneness. One of the most relevant lyrics was the one that was adopted as the signature tune of the Beacon of Peace 2007 and performed by Sherifatu Gunu. It ran as follows:
